Mythology Quiz- Period 1

1. i can't find why he was often blind folded in the book..

2. Triton was one of the Gods of water. He was the trumpeter of the sea. He normally blew trumpets of conch shells. He was the son of Poseidon.

3. Cerberus guarded the entrance of hades. He was the three-headed dragon-tailed dog who permits all spirits to enter but none to return.

4. The meaning of Lethe is that she is the river of forgetfull ness in Hades.

5. Janus was one of the principal of Roman gods and the costodian of the universe. January was named after him because the first hour of the day, the first day of the month, the first month of the year were blessed to him.

6. She was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. When she was still a beautiful maiden, Pluto seized her and held her captive in his underworld. Though Demeter eventually persuaded the gods to let her daughter return to her, Persephone was required to remain in the underworld for four months because Pluto had tricked her into eating a pomegranate (food of the dead) there. When Persephone left the earth, the flowers wasted and the grain died, but when she returned, life blossomed more.
