Considering The Alchemist and what we've been reading in it, what do you think of it so far. What are your questions? What do you want to find out about Santiago and his quest? How does Santiago's quest compare to other quests we have discussed in class (Ophelia's in Pan's Labyrinth, Perseus and Theseus in Heroes, Gods, and Monsters)? What are some similarities and differences? Please post your comments on here.

err.. I think the alchemist is really good [is very interesting] My question is really.. This book seems similar to the book of Mousse. Mousses that choosen one to lead the slave & etc [te tenth comentment thing] Well the Alchemist story seem familiar to that Mousses story. So my question is.. Is this story base on that book? Why is it so familiar. ANyway Santiago's quest is similare to Pan's Labyrinth because they were both base on a DREAM.:D Ofelia wanted to find out her real father so she did the test that Pan told her to. And Santiego is trying to find the treasures.. And yeah ther bot trying to find something htat they adores. How they are different is that Ofelia died[susposebly went back to her kingdom] And I The Alchemist i dont think Santiego died HAHA

I think that in Santiago's quest, it really intersting that it symbolizes the different sides of people's adventures, obstacles, sufferings, and desires/wants in order to survive the world and deal with ourselves or others in real life situations. My question would probably be is that, "Is it harder for a person to find their personal calling and feel determined that just give up, if so then what are some ways to stay focused and stick your heart to something headfastly while some others need a push?" I think that Santiago's quest requires a lot of trusting in his own self and adapting to the world around him, like a sheperd or priest does.. Some similarities and differences between other myths are that they pretty much intertwine in terms of fantasy worlds and the way usually in order for a hero to start their journey, they need some sort of curiousity or belief in what is the unkown and start to wander in some far off world that will lead to their own personal callings, and will mean so much to their lives, whether better or for worse. Some differenences are that in the myths, there are mostly people who are related to mythical beings that are sort of unhuman like- with the fawn, frogs, magical tree, while in Santiago's quest, he meets real humans yet they have real reputations or statures (being a gypsy or kings or thieves) is unique and maybe cannot ocmpare to the ideals of a myth's monsters and their reputations. These real - sort of humans actually do not need to be in moster form, but can still reprsent the negative or positive qualities in the world to guide him.

The Alchemist seems like it could be an interesting story. It talks a lot about omens and signs. Like the Peronal Legend which Santiago is trying to fulfill. He's out to find his treasure. My only question is what does the title have to do with the story? I don't really understand the point of the title right now. Santiago's quest is similar to Ophlia's because they both had gotten help from someone/something. They were given items to make the quests easier. A difference though would be that Pan's Labyrinth is a mythological story and The Alchemist seems like it could be non-fiction.

I think The Alchemist is pretty interestin so far. I would like to read more of it if I had the book, haha. A question I would like to ask about the book is that when did the "old man" began to help people with their personal callings... Since he did mention before that he helped this other guy with the emerald...

In Santiago's quest, I would like to figure out what is the "actual" treasure. The similarities in Santiago's quest and others like Pan's Labyrinth is that they're both risking something. Santiago's risking his sheeps and Ophelia's was risking her life to retrieve he things she was told to do. The differences is that Santiago's is a "personal calling", something he was "meant" to do. Ophelia's quest was sort of like a...well, I'm not sure about Ophelia's... haha, I don't quite remember much of that, HAHAHA.

okay ms. crabtree its dion and this time i'm actually going to leave a comment that has to deal with what u asked me to do, k?

well the alchemist is really interesting. i decided not to read ahead so that i can stay focused with the class. but i've got to say that its really awesome. all this talk about personal legend in the text is deep. i think it does has to do with all these natural omens and whatnot. but anyways i wanna find out whats gonna happen!!! give us more packets ms. crabtree!!!

I think the book, The Alchemst, is pretty interesting and a agnet that keeps me wanting to read on. My only queston is, how can he be so patient with time? Even I would've gotten crazy if I had to work at a crystal shop for 6 months and needing a year to have enough money. Endless days, wasted. But still, I want to know what obstacles he went through for his quest and what kind of treasure he gets in the end. Well I guess that both quests have determinaton and bravery included. And risking their own lives and time. Wasted... I don't remember about the HGM book. .. .. ... .+." It's been a long time, plus there's like 2109830193 stores, and with my bad memory o_o" The differences is the quest finishing point, what they recieve in the end. .. ..... So yeahh, ._.

I'm beginning to like The Alchemist the more I read into it. It started off kinda boring. When he began his quest to find his treasure, the story got more interesting to me. I wonder if Santiago's treasure is worth all the trouble he's going through, but I guess it is since "the King of Salem" helped him toward his goal. Santiago has to face obstacles just like Ophelia had trouble on the way to achieve her goal of becoming a princess. Differences would be the goal they're trying to achieve and the amount of support they have. Overall, I'm really interested in finding out how Santiago feels about his personal calling.

Hi!! Ms. Crabtree!!I am Mei Lan.I think "The Alchemist" is very interesting. It seems it contains a lot of themes, but I don't get any of them so far. My question of this book is did Santiago's life change a lot if he didn't get the recurrent dream? I'm very interested to know what was his life going to become if he didn't get the recurrent dream?
About Santiago's quest, I want to know that how could he find out his actual treasure. It seems he will meet a lot of challenges later on. The similarity of Santiago's quest and the other quests, like Ophelia's, are they may danger their live in order to reach their quests. They needed many people's help and they needed to trust themselve that they could do it.They also needed to believe impossible things, like Pan and the girl in Santiago's dream. The difference is that Ophelia needed to finish the three missions and get Pan's agreement in order to become a princess, but Santiago didn't have to do those, but I don't really know because I only finish up to 20 pages. I hope I can have the whole book to read and figure it out.

Hey Ms. Crabtree. I think the Alchemist is very interesting. Very suspenceful. The Alchemist I believe contains multiple themes. However, I do have a question about Santiago's quest. Why did the thought of the old man stopped Santiago from becoming a shepherd again after he decided to stop working with the crystal merchant? Santiago grew drastically. He left his house with very little knowledge, and as he explore the Arab and encounter the thief, crystal merchant, and the Englishman, his knowledge expanded. I think Ophelia and Santiago's journey is similar because they both had to sacrifice many of their valuables to achieve something they wanted.

It's kinda interesting everywhere he go there's prophet telling where he go but i dont get why the title match with the book. Can't wait to get to read the packet with the classs again =) It's kinda almost the samething with the movie we watch in class Ofeila but different quests .
